  1. Tell us what changed

Give the postcode, the affected equipment and when the problem began. Mention visible damage, unusual heat or a burning smell.

  2. Arrange the right visit

Discuss availability, access and the investigation charge. Explain any equipment that must remain powered.

  3. Agree the next step

The findings determine the repair. Confirm the scope, parts and price, then review testing and any remaining work at handover.

Before you arrange an electrician

What should I tell you about an electrical fault?

Start with the postcode and what you have noticed: loss of power, a tripping circuit, damaged equipment or unusual heat. Say when it began and whether the property is occupied. Describe only what you can observe safely; leave covers and wiring alone.

Can you help outside normal working hours?

Call with the address and fault details for an out-of-hours enquiry. Attendance, the likely investigation and any immediate make-safe work are agreed for your location. A repair requiring parts or more extensive work may need another appointment.

Does a power cut always need an electrician?

A fault inside the property and a network power cut need different responses. For a network power cut, contact 105 in England, Scotland or Wales, or NIE Networks on 03457 643643 in Northern Ireland. An electrician can assess faults within the property installation.

Will I know what the visit covers?

Discuss the callout and investigation charges, access arrangements and likely next step when booking. Following assessment, agree the repair scope, parts, testing and any further visit before work proceeds.

Network power-cut contacts: Power Cut 105 and NIE Networks. If there is a fire or immediate danger, move to safety and call 999.
